Our 5 Favourite Pubs & Bars In Shoreditch

19 May , 2015 Food & Drink,London's Best...

With a pub on every corner and a bar in every basement, you could stay in Shoreditch for a month and visit a different establishment every night. So, to help you narrow it down, we have compiled a list of our favourite pubs and bars in the Shoreditch area.

The Big Chill Bar

The Big Chill Bar

By day, kick back on one of the Big Chill’s big leather sofas, or chill with a coffee on the terrace and people watch the vintage store shoppers (and make use of the free Wi-Fi). By night, enjoy an indie pale ale, revel in the low-lit, laid-back vibe and enjoy their eclectic range of DJ bookings and live music. Don’t be put off by the edgy kids and indie atmosphere; this is the perfect spot for a cold cider on a sunny London day.

The Queen of Hoxton

The Queen of Hoxton

The fact that this one gets mentioned regularly in our blog speaks for itself. Whether you are hoping to catch a film night or fringe theatre, or you are just looking for a place to liven up your night with their toe-tapping house and disco playlist, the Queen of Hoxton is a must-visit. Step up onto the rooftop and catch some rays on colourful benches, or huddle under a giant wigwam in winter months.

The Horse & Groom

The Horse and Groom

If you love a good pub, but equally can’t start the party without a cutting-edge set from one of the underground scene’s best DJs, never fear, this pub-club can actually cater for that unusual mix. By day, the Horse & Groom is just a charming east-end pub serving up well-cooked food, craft beers and G&Ts, but by night, both floors are filled with electronic music revellers gathering for everything from small independently-run nights, to big bookings – including the likes of Craig Richards and Todd Terje.

The Discount Suit Company

This bar offers both a challenge and a reward. The challenge: actually finding the place. From outside you could be forgiven for thinking that we are playing a prank on you by sending you here, as the bar resides below a real-life discount suit store. Look up, however, and you will see a dilapidated sign, letters jauntily arranged to look like they are falling off. Finding the entrance is like falling down the rabbit hole in Alice in Wonderland, but once you pull back the heavy velvet curtain and step inside it is well worth it. Take a friend and work through the weird and wonderful cocktail list. If none of them are to your fancy, tell the expert mixologist barman your poison and he will concoct the perfect potion for you.

The Nightjar

The Nightjar

If décor and decadence is your thing, head to the Nightjar for a night of enchanting, 1920s charm. Sip on a cocktail from a tin cup, or book a table or booth for dinner. Enjoy the soft sounds of the smooth jazz playlist (it will be midnight before you know it) and leave feeling all fuzzy inside from the glow of the candlelit tables.
