The Dictionary Hostel Terms and Conditions

Please read our Terms and Conditions carefully prior to making any booking via this website. The Dictionary Hostel guarantees to provide the lowest room rate available on thedictionaryhostel.com By making a booking via this website, you confirm you accept these Terms and Conditions.

Reservations

Bookings can be made Online, by Email (info@thedictionaryhostel.com), over the Phone (+44 (0) 207 613 2784) or In person with our reception team at the hostel.

You agree that you may only make reservations for yourself and your invited guests, and you must not make reservations for the purpose of reselling, posting, advertising or marketing reservation information through third-party websites or other means, or any false, fraudulent or speculative reservations. We cannot accept booking made by housing associations.

If you, or through any third party or agency, need to book on behalf of one or more proposed guests, you must make the reservation directly through our reception.

Change of guest name of any reservation is not allowed unless there are any special circumstances deemed acceptable by our booking team. The hostel has the right to reject any guest from checking-in if the guest name is different from the name as stated on the reservation.

We reserve the right to cancel or modify the reservation you made in its sole discretion without notice if it appears that any reservation has been made in breach of the above terms or involve any abuse of the reservation service.

The rates include taxes and linen. Towels are not included in this rate but can be hired at reception (£2/towel)

You are booking a bed in a specific room type and not an individual room. We make every effort to place members of your party in the same room, however, this cannot be guaranteed. Please contact us in advance to make requests about specific rooms via info@thedictionaryhostel.com.

We make every effort to accommodate you in the dormitory size of your choice, however if for some exceptional reason it was not possible and you have been booked in a smaller dorm than the type you requested, you will not be charged the difference in price. If we have moved you to a larger dorm, your booking will reflect the price of this room. This does not apply to changes made at your request.

A stay at The Dictionary Hostel cannot exceed 14 nights. After 2 weeks, a period of 6 months is required before a new booking with us.

Group bookings

Groups consist of 12 people or more. If you have booked a group and haven’t contacted us yet, please send us an email to groups@thedictionaryhostel.com. Otherwise your booking can’t be confirmed. If you haven’t booked your group directly with us, we cannot guarantee all members of your group will be in the same dorm. Special terms and Conditions apply to groups, please contact us directly.

Age restrictions

Children (under the age of 16) cannot be accommodated at the hostel and we are unable to accept guests under the age of 18 on Friday and Saturday nights.

Under 18’s cannot stay in any shared dorms, they can stay in private rooms when accompanied by an adult over 18 years. Please note that, bookings cannot be accepted for guests under the age of 18 unless they are over 16 and accompanied by an adult.

Payment

Full pre-payment of the first night is required at the time of the booking for any reservation made through our website or directly with our reservation team. See Cancellation conditions for a refund of this deposit.

Balance has to be paid immediately when checking in at the hostel. We accept cash (GBP only), most credit cards and debit cards. We do not accept American Express and Diners Club. When checking in you will be asked to provide us with a credit card number as a caution for any damage that may be caused during your stay.  

Prior to arrival we can charge on your demand your credit card with the full amount for your reservation. A request has to be sent by email.

If you intend to pay for someone’s stay and will not be checking-in to show the payment card, a request has to be sent by email via info@thedictionaryhostel.com

Check-in and Check-out

You can check–in from 2pm and check-out is at 10 am.

If you arrive earlier, you are welcome to leave your luggage in our storage room. Our receptionist will be there with a smile and some tips on where to get a good coffee and lunch!

If you arrive late, no worries, our reception is open 24/7! However, let us know if you plan to arrive after midnight so we do not cancel your booking.

Please do not forget to pack your ID! Make sure to bring a valid identification with you – This must be either a passport, government issued National Identity card, UK residence permit, military ID or a UK driving license. Expired identification documents cannot be accepted. We are unable to check anyone in without this, so make sure to pack your ID! You might need it to get into bars and clubs as well 😉 Students cards and security badges are not accepted.

Late check out, you’ll have to pay £5 per hour with a maximum of 3 hours. If it exceeds 3 hours, you will have to pay another night accommodation subject to availability. You can hang out in our lounge area after checking-out if you love the place and want to stay with us a little bit longer 😉 under reception discretion.

Room key card

We also ask for £5 in cash as a deposit for your keycard.

You’ll be given a key-card when you check-in which gives you access to both the hostel and your room. If you lose your key card, you’ll be asked another deposit for a new card – so please keep it safe!

Changes / Cancellation conditions

(special Terms and Conditions apply to non-refundable and group bookings)

A change can be made to your reservation until 2 pm, the day before your arrival. After that time no changes can be made. If you need to change the dates of your booking contact our reservation team via info@thedictionaryhostel.com or directly on +44 (0) 207 613 2784. Changes of dates are subject to availability and rate differences may apply. If you book via another website, the changes before arrival may have to be done directly with the agent.

All cancellations can only be made by email directly to info@thedictionaryhostel.com
A booking can be cancelled without charge if notice is given to The Dictionary Hostel 24 hours prior to arrival day before 14.00 hours (2pm) (local time). Example: If you arrive on a Friday, a cancellation free of charge is possible before Thursday 2pm. Please note that the deposit, fees paid to Hostelworld, Hostelbookers, Hostelclub and Expedia are not refundable (this money goes directly to these agents). Please also note that this policy cancellation does not apply to group booking.

Refunds will be made by the same method the payments were made and to the specific card used at the time of the booking.

Non-Refundable bookings

Please note: Non-refundable bookings are non-refundable & can not be cancelled or amended. These options can provide a significant discount, however if your travel plans may be subject to change we recommend booking a standard, flexible rate.

Full pre-payment of a reservation is required if booking a non-refundable rate. The first night will be automatically charged upon booking, and we will charge the remaining balance to the card details provided. We reserve the right to cancel any non-refundable reservation if we are unable to charge the full balance prior to arrival.

No Show

If you fail to arrive for your stay, you will be charged for the first night of your stay.

Hostel rules

The Dictionary Hostel is 100% smoke-free. Smoking is not permitted in any part of the hostel. Should it be brought to our attention smoking has taken place, a cleaning fee of £200 will be assessed. Guest will be asked to leave the premises immediately. A refund will not be issued.

Customers are required to conduct themselves in a reasonable and responsible manner and must not act in any way which may disturb other guests.  Failure to adhere to this requirement may result in customers being asked to leave the hostel in which event all additional charges shall become immediately payable by the customers.

Any guest(s) who, in the opinion of our staff, compromise the comfort, safety or security of other guests, staff or local residents will be asked to leave the hostel premises.

Guest are expected to respect other guests as well as staff and property.

The customer will be responsible for any loss or damage caused at the hostel.

Drugs

Drug use in illegal in England. Any guest found using drugs on our premises will be asked to leave immediately. A refund will not be issued.

Personal Property
Each bed (in dorm rooms) has a personal locker for valuables. It is a guest’s responsibility to ensure that personal belongings are secure at all times. The Dictionary Hostel accepts no liability for the loss, theft or damage to guests’ property, however sustained or caused. We strongly recommend guests bring a padlock to use on lockers or buy one at reception on arrival.
