Top 5 London Festivals This Summer
Put that tent away, there’s no need for one when the biggest names in music, comedy and art are right on your doorstep or at the very least a tube ride away. Take a look at what we reckon are going to be 2015’s top London festivals!
Born & Bred – 6th June
The first in a new summer festival series by FOUND, Born & Bred kicks things off loud and proud, with some off the biggest names in UK bass lighting up Haggerston Park this June. Billed as the ‘true sounds of London forged in the Big Smoke’ this festival champions the best of British, looking back to the grass roots of music culture in the capital. Featuring grime legend, Wiley, and UK drum n bass pioneer, Goldie, prepare for a gritty day of the underground scene’s finest jungle, drum n bass, dubstep, grime and garage.
Visions – 8th August
London’s up-and-coming Visions Festival is located in one of London’s most exciting and promising areas, bringing Hackney to life with an array of markets, exhibitions, street food, craft markets and London’s underground music. The split venue event offers you something a little different in the London festival scene; it provides a relaxed vibe full of real music lovers enjoying unique artists like this year’s Camera Obscura, The Antlers, Ceremony and Merchandise, without a muddy field in site. In the grand scheme of festivals, Visions is only a baby, however it has proven a huge success in its first two years with two sell-out weekends. So, if you’re heading to the big smoke for this weekend we’d suggest hotfooting it to their site and grabbing your ticket ASAP!
Field Day – 6th – 7th June
This two-day festival in Victoria Park has become one of the UKs most exciting festivals, with a consistently alternative and innovative line-up, Field Day moves away from the of-the-moment headline acts and provides a stubbornly wonderful boutique festival experience. Saturday gives us everything from the ethereal mystery of the stunning FKA Twigs to the unconventional disco enigma that is Todd Terje, from floor-filler and captivating presence Caribou, to an unstoppable duo going back-to-back; influential and original Daniel Avery and dance music veteran Andrew Weatherall. Sunday offers up a cast of legends, from the iconic punk poet Patti Smith to 90s shoegaze legends Ride. If the clouds stay at bay and the weather holds up for this one it will be an incredible weekend.
Citadel – 19th July
From the curators of Lovebox comes Citadel Festival in Victoria Park. Focussing on more of a holistic, all-round immersive experience, Citadel offers everything from singer-songwriter tranquillity to the arts to tasty treats from some of London’s favourite street foodies. Here you have a bit of everything; chilled, beachy vibes from the singing surfer Ben Howard (check out how good he is live in the video above!), to Brit award nominees Bombay Bicycle Club, whose inter-album diversity is astounding. This festival offers a unique vibe and definitely is not one to be missed.
Lovebox – 17th – 18th July
‘Snoop Dogg’. What more is there to say? Oh, ‘Bonobo’, that’s right. Or did we mean ‘Kaytranada’? Or, perhaps Mr Ram Jam Rodigan MBE himself? We can’t make our minds up and we imagine this weekend will involve a few dilemmas as we try to figure out the least painful clash strategies. Should we see the first half of Hot Chip and catch the last 15 minutes of Jessie Ware? Or forget them altogether and do our thing at Groove Armada? One thing’s for sure, we better put some serious hours in at the gym if we’re going to sprint between stages and pack in as much gold as we can from this unbelievable line-up that the Lovebox team have pulled together this year! Get down early and get kitted out at the Dancing Leopard and Gypsy East before the fun gets in full swing at one of the best boutique festivals that London has to offer.
