East London’s Best Street Art Locations
Shoreditch is without a doubt one of the best places to discover street art in London. It’s pretty much lurking around every corner, with tags and beautiful murals decorating the streets and shop shutters. New pieces pop up seemingly every week, from local artists to world famous artists like Stik, Eine, Shepard Fairey and, of course, Banksy. Check out our guide to spot East London’s finest pieces of street art!
Ebor Street
Home to Shoreditch House, this straight road features huge and long pieces of artwork the whole length. Most famously, Ben Eine’s work brightens these walls, and he’s even working on a new one for February/March 2016! The other famous piece of work that graces these walls is Shepard Fairey’s (OBEY GIANT) ‘Shoplifters Welcome’ mural, which is stunning to look at (but, seriously, please don’t shoplift, ain’t nobody got time for that)
Rivington Street
‘Guard Dog’ – Banksy
If you head down to Cargo club today, you’re sure of a big surprise! Not one, but two, original Banksy pieces sit here, both with the artists’ iconic satirical flair.
Further along, underneath the bridge, is another special piece by Eine, the giant words SCARY leading you along the wall. There are so many brilliant pieces of art along this road so do take a good time to explore!
Brick Lane
The art on Brick Lane just has to be seen, as the length of this great lane is chock full of interesting and ever changing works in the form of graffiti, drawings, posters and sculptures. You’ll find works from artists like Nils, Jim Vision and Dscreet nestled amongst the curry houses, coffee shops and vintage stores of Brick Lane, but you’ll have to really look closely for many of them, some of there are purposely hard to find!
Hackney Road
Stik
Another goldmine of street art sits on this long road. On the side of a tall building you’ll catch Stik’s character standing tall and looking down over the pavement, Annatomix’s gorgeous designs galloping along the walls, or stencil based works from Zabou and Otto Schade. It’s a huge job to list the sheer amount of artists featured on this road, but some art to look out for is Mr. Shiz’s beautiful Tiger mural and the fantastic pieces from Israeli artists Broken Fingaz Crew and elusive Belgian artist ROA. ROA’s stunning 3.5m high rabbit faced controversy when Hackney council wanted to remove the painting in 2010. After a huge campaign of support, the council did a U-turn and the mural remains up today!
There is so much to see from Shoreditch’s art scene, so why not take an East End and Street Art Walking Tour with Undiscovered London? The tour begins everyday at 11AM outside Liverpool Street Station and will take you round all the popular spots of the East London street art scene, whilst teaching you all about the history and culture of our fine side of London. Tickets are £12 online / £14 if purchased on the day at the beginning of the tour.
