It may only be October, but it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas according to Oxford Street. The annual festive lights have been erected and while they remain firmly off, for now, the official switch-on date has been announced as November 6th. On the big day, the entire Street will be closed between 12pm and 7pm. The switch-on event will include pop-up food stalls and festive activities to keep the children entertained. Oh, and by the way, Craig David’s doing the switch-on honours on the day… no biggie!

This is one of the biggest, traditional events in the capital’s calendar. The river pageant, with its fabulous flotilla, heralds the arrival of the new Lord Mayor and precedes the world-famous procession. Filling the stretch of streets between Bank and Aldwych, the procession includes more than 7,000 performers, 200 horses and 150 floats. With live music, dance, acrobatics and colourful costumes, the show climaxes in a magnificent fireworks display over the River Thames. Chances are, the grandstand seats for the show have already sold out, but head to either bank of the river on 12th November to enjoy the fabulous (and free) fireworks.
