Top 5 Coffee Shops in East London

6 Oct , 2014 Uncategorized

No point trying to deny it anymore, summer is gone and cold and rainy days are waiting ahead of us for the next couple of months. Some people hold on to their summer wardrobe until the last minute while others (myself) cuddle down with cosy coats and warm tea.
In Sweden we have a tradition we call “fika”, it’s basically the same thing that English people do when they go to the pub to socialize only difference is that we have coffee and cakes instead of the beer. I love that tradition so I see it as part of my duty as a Swede to take it with me wherever I go and to share it with you so I went out on a coffee adventure with my friend and his camera to find the best places for you. You will find the result in the list below 🙂

Look Mum no hands!
Do you like bikes? Do you like coffee?
If you answered yes to the questions above this is the place for you. Look mum no hands! is the perfect combination of a coffee shop and bike studio (that’s what I decided to call a place where you can fix you bike).Translate

Translate
Translate is reeeaaaaaally close to the hostel. It’s actually in the same building, just next to the reception.
All their food delicious food is delivered from local producers and their apple/cinnamon tea is to die for. While there you might be lucky to run into one of London’s many celebs that hang around in Shoreditch. I’ll give you some hints to make the “guess who”-game easier for you: He’s a comedian, actor and activist and was married to a girl that sang about kissing girls a couple years ago.

Betty’s Coffee Shop
Betty’s is the definition of an East London coffee place. It’s got the randomly mixed and matched tables and chairs, the art covered walls, books everywhere and a never ending flow of great music. Don’t think I need to describe it anymore, you get the point.

Cafe 1001
Feeling for some nice reggae vibes with your coffee or maybe beer and some live music? Cafe 1001 is a really chilled out place to go to during the day, its big and airy but still got that nice atmosphere that makes it to one of my favorite workplaces when the office is getting too small for me.

FIKA
I’ve always loved Brick Lane, I started to love it even a bit more when I found FIKA. It’s a Swedish fika place where you can get anything from the classic meatballs to everyone’s favorite: The Kladdkaka. It’s not only Swedes that love this place, once you’ve tried their filter coffee (I know “filter” makes it sound really dull but trust me it’s not) you will love it too.

ENJOY!
