Top 7 London Festivals 2016
Yes, yes, yes, it’s that time of year again; it’s festival season! But put that tent away, we promise you won’t need it, as London’s best festivals are right outside on the doorstep! Check out our favourite festivals that we make sure to frequent every year.
P.S. Don’t miss the chance to nab your accommodation with us early, as our beds tend to fly away pretty quickly around festival season!
Rinse | Born & Bred – 4th & 5th June
FOUND’s Born & Bred festival is back and this time, they’ve teamed up with Rinse FM, London’s legendary grime, dubstep, house and jungle community radio station for a weekender! Haggerston Park will once again be filled with the ‘true sounds of London’, championing the best of the capital’s grassroots music culture. With appearances from Wiley and Slimzee, Benga, Lady Leshurr and So Solid Crew, you know it’s gonna be a raucous weekend! Tickets are still available but make sure to get them quick!
Field Day – 11th & 12th June
It’s quickly becoming one of the most innovative festivals in London, and with reason, as previous years have seen Caribou, Patti Smith, Pixies, Metronomy and Disclosure perform, to name just a few! This year, the wonderful James Blake and PJ Harvey headline, bringing their unique acts to the stage at Victoria Park. Plus the rest of the lineup is just silly in terms of how good the acts are… you’ve got Yeasayer, Skepta, The Temper Trap, Metz, Girl Band, Fat White Family, Beach House, Air… Phew! Oh, Field Day, you do bloomin’ spoil us! Standard tickets are still available but these will go like hotcakes so go get em’!
Wireless – 8th – 10th July
Want to see the biggest names in pop? Well, get down to Finsbury Park on the weekend of the 8th July to see your favourite chart-smashing acts, with headline slots from Calvin Harris, The 1975, Chase & Status, J.Cole, Boy Better Know and Kygo. Those who want a post-exam blowout, this is where to be, with fairground rides, street food and merchandise market stalls to add to the electric atmosphere! Finsbury Park is a little further north than the other festivals listed, so make sure to duck out a little early so you can avoid the mental crush on the tube back to the hostel.
Lovebox – 15th & 16th July
Our mates at Lovebox don’t half put on a good festival! The first thing we’ve got to say is ‘Major Lazer’… still need convincing? Okay, how about ‘LCD Soundsystem’? ‘Diplo’, ‘Jungle’, ‘Stormzy’? If this isn’t putting you in full party mode then we don’t know what will! Victoria Park is the perfect location for this summer slam of music, fashion, food and roller disco… yep, you read that correctly, ROLLER DISCO!
Catch us consistently falling over there all weekend! Tickets are nearly all gone, so go go go!
Citadel – 17th July
Hot on the heels of Lovebox, Citadel is here to revive you on Sunday with the most chill out of bands and DJ’s gracing Victoria Park, with post-rock legends Sigur Ros gracing the stage alongside Caribou, Lianne La Havas, Submotion Orchestra to name just a few. The festival is definitely a day to recuperate after Lovebox, with relaxation and wellbeing workshops and classes all day. Fancy a head and shoulder massage? Done! Want to join a mass yoga class? Go for it! Citadel is all about good vibes. Tickets are extremely limited, so make sure you strike ASAP!
Visions – 6th August
Hackney’s finest festival returns once again to give us the epic dilemma of which venue to leg it on over to! Set over six venues around Hackney, Visions brings us the best of alternative and underground music, alongside an array of markets, exhibitions, street food and craft stalls. Between sets, the vibe around Hackney is so chill, as real music lovers turn out to share each other’s experiences of who they’ve just seen. But you’ll have to choose wisely this year, as Young Fathers, Anna Calvi, Mykki Blanco and Bleached are among the artists playing across the six venues. Tickets start at £30, with one ticket giving you access to all six venues, bargain!
The 1-2-3-4 Festival – 3rd September
The 1-2-3-4 Festival is back and it’s bringing an absolutely epic and eclectic lineup of indie, fuzz and experimental rock to Stratford. The festival has been away for a few years now but they’re back with a bang and they’ve brought The Cribs, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Spector, Carl Barat and The Jackals, The Wytches, Bo Ningen and sooooo many more amazing acts. Plus, there will be some pretty great after parties so keep a sharp eye out for them! Earlybird tickets are on sale now so snap them up while you can!
