The summer holidays may be over, but that doesn’t mean London is slowing down! Check out the must see and do events hitting East London this month.

The Grillstock festival is set to hit Walthamstow on 5th and 6th September for a weekend of burgers, hot dogs and music to create one big party. Grillstock will see a fantastic line up of more than 25 bands and DJs with festival favorites Hayseed Dixie, the latino vibes of the Cuban Bros, DJ Yoda, and Grandmaster Flash. Headlining on Saturday are Fun Lovin’ Criminals followed on Sunday by Razorlight.

As well as great music, there are dozens of teams competing for ‘King of the Grill’ in the US style low ‘n’ slow BBQ competition. Not forgetting the hot dog eating competition and heaps of pit-smoked mouth-watering delicious food.

If you want to see a film this September but don’t want to sit in a stuffy cinema, then get along to the Rooftop Film Club at the Queen of Hoxton. You can view some classic, cult and recent releases on top of one of London’s finest rooftops throughout September in Shoreditch and enjoy a balmy evening this summer watching a movie.

You can always head downstairs after the film and experience the basement bar and club at the Queen of Hoxton and make a real night of it.

On Blackheath

Blackheath Common is set for a celebration of music, food, arts and entertainment on 12th and 13th September, after its successful inaugural year in 2014. Taking place on Blackheath Common, home to the start of the London Marathon, its headliners for 2015 are Elbow and Madness, with the Manic Street Preachers, Anna Calvi, Kelis and Laura Mvula also performing.

There will also be several supporting stages with a series of alternative music, dance and DJs. If you get hungry there’s a food village hosting a chef’s club, pop up restaurants and street food to enjoy.

Considered one the of the finest vinyl record shops in the capital, Phonica birthday parties have become legendary. On 12 September, Phonica Records celebrate a dozen years with a special celebration at Oval Space, featuring François K, Moritz von Oswald, DJ Deep, Nummer Live, GE-OLOGY and more.

Phonica is renown amongst record collectors and DJs alike, whilst their annual birthday parties have become something of an institution. Held in a different place each year, this year the Oval Space in Bethnal Green are hosting a special all day and night party to help them celebrate their 12th in style and is not to be missed.

Rugby World Cup 2015

The 18th September sees the kick off for Rugby World Cup 2015 and London is set for a spectacular six weeks of rugby, hosting 17 matches, with the World Cup Final taking place at Twickenham Stadium on 31 October 2015.

Tickets are available from £15 for adults, and with more than 2 million tickets having gone on sale; it is one of the most accessible Rugby World Cups ever. Stratford in East London will see the former Olympic Stadium, the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park reopen temporarily for five matches during Rugby World Cup. On 23 September you can see France v Romania and on 24th September see the reigning World Cup champions, the New Zealand All Blacks v Namibia.
