18 Nov , 2015 Things To Do In London

You’ve come to London for the food, sights and partying, but hey, it’s Christmas and you may as well pick up some gifts whilst you’re here! Plus, a London Christmas is definitely worth seeing, from the independent markets to the bright lights of Oxford Street. So if you’re around for the Christmas period, why not visit some of London’s best places for Christmas shopping, so you can pick up a few unique bits to take back to family and friends.

Barbican Christmas Market

The Barbican will be hosting their own market in their foyers, with over 35 independent crafters, artists, foodies and designers setting up shop to sell their unique wares. From vintage clothing to children’s toys, you’ll find truly independent, and potentially one-of-a-kind, items here, alongside generous servings of mulled wine, hot chocolate and mince pies! The market runs from the 5th – 21st December every Friday, Saturday and Sunday and is open till 8:30 PM each night.

Christmas Wednesdays, Columbia Road

One of our favourite Shoreditch hotspots is celebrating 10 years of their Christmas Wednesday’s so you know that this one will be special! Extending their opening hours till 9 PM for four Wednesday’s in December, over 50 independent boutiques and cafes will be trading their local goods accompanied by Christmas carollers and plenty of mulled wine! The market will be running every Wednesday from the 2nd – 23rd December.

London Brewers’ Market, Old Spitalfields Market

If you have friends or family that would rather wet-their-whistle than receive yet another department store shower gel set, then head down to the London Brewers Market on the 28th November at Old Spitalfields Market. The Five Points Brewing Company will be hosting the event, showcasing London’s finest breweries all selling and offering tastings of their perfectly brewed craft beer.

Winterville

From the 26th November to the 23rd December, Victoria Park is once again open this year for a festive fairground of dancing, eating, skating and shopping! Bizzare Bazaar are returning with their Victorian-themed market full of unique and hand crafted treasures as well as some amazing East London street food! Outside there is a massive ice rink, fairground, ferris wheel, crazy golf and a pop up ‘Winter Night Garden’ showing Christmas classics like ‘Home Alone’, ‘Elf’ and, of course, ’Die Hard’.

Hackney Flea Market hosts another amazing Flea-mas market this year, full of weird and wonderful bric-a-brac from years gone by and a stellar selection of handmade items from independent sellers. Where else will you be able to find some antique luggage, kitsch kitchenware or mid-century Danish décor? Alongside the stalls, there will be a stereo system pumping out the best Christmas tunes, though we reckon there’ll be more Julian Casablancas than Shakin’ Stevens… It’s free entry from 11am – 6pm on the 12th and 13th December so make sure it’s firmly in your diary!
