World Vegan Month

6 Nov , 2017 Food & Drink

Hey campers! This month it’s World Vegan Month. We think that’s a great thing. Being vegan is good for animals, good for the environment, good for our society and good for your health. Even if you are a dedicated carnivore, it’s important to really think about what you are putting into your body and how what you choose to eat effects the world around you.

World Vegan Month is a great time to give veganism a try with The Vegan Society’s 30 Day Vegan Pledge. They offer great support by connecting you with a community of people who are also curious about going vegan, as well as providing you with loads of amazing recipes and education on all the benefits of a vegan diet and lifestyle.

London itself has some amazing vegan restaurants that we eat at all the time. I eat a CookDaily at Box Park on a pretty regular basis (I’m an omnivore) and I’d go as far to say it’s my favourite place to grab a quick bite in London –inexpensive, filling and most importantly, absolutely delicious with big flavors. I like the High Grade and Da Infamous, but you really can’t go wrong with any of the food. And King Cook, the chef who owns CookDaily, is more or less as cool as they come.

I also really love Temple of Seitan in Hackney Central – besides the very excellent play on words, anything that is deep fried with that much love is going to taste AMAZING. This food is as dirty as it comes – think spicy burger, mac & cheese and hot wings – yummier than the chicken shop around the corner and 100% vegan. The queue is worth it, I promise!

Then there is Club Mexicana, who make excellent Mexican food that happens to be totally vegan. It’s proper good stuff and they pop-up at Dinerama in Shoredtich and über trendy Pamela in Dalston. It’s worth taking the trip to Pamela, the cocktails are killer and what’s better with Mexican than a banging margarita!

For more great vegan restaurant choices check out this Vogue article and this blog from the Evening Standard.

We’ll be posting some of our fave vegan recipes this month as well. You can start with the recipe for your own High Grade at the bottom of this article about CookDaily. Be sure to let us know how you get on with it!
